Fandango gave us “survive” as the word of the day, yesterday. Today’s word is Speech. The following is Not a speech.

About 2 years ago, I was talking with friends and we were discussing about surviving but then moving on to living. I had the idea to rewrite the lyrics to I WILL SURVIVE. And it has been in a basket just waiting, and then this topic/word was presented as a prompt. I guess I’m continuing to tell my story again in poetic form. This will need a lot more work. But here is the start of my first draft. I will be working on this to go along with Gloria Gaynor’s recording. Here is a Karaoke version of the song. I’m hoping my song will fit. I left out the “middle verse” This still needs some work but I am going to release it now.
I DID SURVIVE
At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never leave with folks not by my side
But then I spent all my days knowing you are cruel
I changed the rules
And I do not belong to you
I’ve had enough
Leave me alone
I’ll make a life without this strife, don’t love you anymore
I didn’t want to see your ugly angry face, don’t bother me
So I just walked, right out the door
You really have no class
I’m headed out for unknown lands
You cursed me and you threatened to take the kids away
I really was afraid
You’d take another whack
Oh no, not I, I did survive
I ran away to safety, to hide and stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
I’ll make my way to live my life and I’ll survive
I did survive!
Oh
I’m going now, right out the door
And then you called
You wanted back I said, no way
You do not understand, you’re the one who did me wrong
I do not need your say
Did you think I’d lose my way?
Oh no, not I, I did survive
I ran away to safety, to hide and stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
I’ll make my way to live my life and I’ll survive
I did survive!
I survived!
